Honda Civic car thefts increase around Barstow : Local News

BARSTOW — Honda Civic owners may want to lock up their cars, as they make up about one third of all vehicles being stolen around Barstow.

The Barstow sheriff’s station reported a recent spike in the number of Civics stolen. Since March 1, deputies have worked 20 reports of stolen cars in the Barstow area.

Of the 20, six of them were Honda Civics, said Sgt. Steve Harbottle. The Civic was the only model stolen multiple times since March. One of those cars was later recovered.

The sheriff’s station recovered seven other stolen Civics in the same period. Thieves may have stolen those cars from the city or in other nearby cities but abandoned them in the county area, Harbottle said.

Early to mid-90s model Civics are frequent theft targets because of design elements that make them easy to steal and because Honda parts are expensive, he said.
